Carnival of Venice
Formerly, the carnival could last up to six months!
The Republic of Venice declared whereas all was allowed.
The Venetian ones, with long capes and the famous mask, were let go to all imaginations.
Did one becoming thus equal other, each one do what he wanted in any anonymity (impunity?) !
A good pretext thus, with the tournaments in love…
Currently, the carnival lasts one week in the mid-February. The tourists invade the city more than ever.
Masks and Disguises
The carnival of Venice started at the 11th century, and the port of the masks and the costumes is well established since
XVe century.
The practice of the port of the mask for the disguise reached its zenith at the 18th century, when the Venetian ones of the various social classes used the carnival like pretexts to mix and, in certain cases, to trade of the sexual favors without fear of identification or punishment.
