Structure
The buildings of Venice are built on wood pillars, which cross several beds of clay and sand.
The foundations rest on these pillars, and the buildings of brick and stone of Istrie are built above.
They are exposed to the threat of tides, in particular between the autumn and the beginning of spring. The city is periodically flooded.
The bridge of the Sighs (1600)
It connected the palate of the Doges to the prison. Its name would come from the
sighs of the prisoners who passed by there.
